A 40 overs a side format agreed and Southwold inserted by Clive Mackintosh upon winning the toss. In what appeared to be fairly tricky batting conditions Southwold ended on 144-9 with a top score of only 30. On a new one for all attendees, the Southwold innings was interrupted by an air ambulance turning up and circling the pitch before landing on the adjacent rugby pitches. For reasons not entirely clear, play did not resume for about half an hour before resuming with the helicopter still in situ.
The Hetairoi bowling effort was notable for a debut from Sam Brichieri-Colombi who sent down a lively opening spell without any luck, and generally the bowlers returned pretty tidy figures.
When Hetairoi had their chance to reply, the chase started promisingly reaching 31 before losing their first wicket in the 10th over to a good low catch. Thereafter the innings rather stalled with none of the batsmen achieving any fluency and the rather modest target receding further into the distance. In the end the Hetairoi innings was finally out out of its misery in the 38th over, finishing 40 runs short.
Overall Southwold were stronger in all three departments and worthy winners on the day |
