Albury C.C. 24th May 1998
By Brian Slade
The 10 men of Hetairoi crashed to their 2nd defeat of the season against Albury in a one-sided affair on Albury Heath after Albury won the toss and inserted HCC. The pitch was lively from the start and the Albury opening bowlers extracted some alarming lift at times. Despite this the score had moved on to 25 before John Rolfe became the first victim falling LBW for 6. From this point wickets continued to fall at regular intervals until HCC were all out for a disappointing 114. Only two HCC batsmen reached double figures, Gary Fenn made a typically obdurate 17 and John Ball 36. The scorecard in full:

When Albury batted it was soon apparent that the HCC total was unlikely to be enough and this was confirmed when a solid opening partnership took Albury more than halfway to their total before Stephen Matthews claimed the first of his two wickets. This proved to be a minor setback and Albury cruised to victory with the loss of only 3 wickets. The bowling figures:

Champagne moment: Difficult to think of one, but probably Rolfe and
Grimsell combining to run out the Albury No. 3.
